Windlass Gearwheel of Cape size bulk carrier was damaged beyond repairs. With no trace of Maker’s original drawing, the task was even more difficult to manufacture a new Gearwheel. New drawings were prepared for manufacturing required Gearwheel. Entire process was carried out as per Class rules for manufacturing new Windlass Gearwheel.
A complete set of Main Gear was cast out of special Grade steel casting along with forged pinion as a replacement for a worn out windlass gear drive of a 270,000 DWT VLOC. Job included hobbing of gear teeth and final machining prior to dispatch to China for fitment on board at Zhoushan.
