One of the vessels owned by a German owner, the vessel's main SUNROD boiler had series of failure of sunrod element tubes. Total 27 nos. which almost amounting to 50% heating surface was lost while flue gasses losing its heat transfer on the way to atmosphere. Affected tubes cut out after removing the blanks, holes prepared by chamfering the tube plate holes and grinding the chamfer smooth then inserting new tube elements, aligning the same in the tube holes and welding both in bottom and top tube plates. Weld deposit was checked by dye penetrant. Entire boiler pressure tested to 1.5 times the working pressure.
